Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Gets a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about observing this charming family go about their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its current sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well help usher in that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
