Brian Eno Urges Public Help to Send Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a cultural melody to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort aims to deliver assistance to people in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a chance to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“The song holds a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Track's Background and Featured Artists
The single was laid down in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the piece was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The diverse array of musicians appearing on Lullaby includes a range of acclaimed names from the scene. All participated in the September show, which managed to collect a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of music creators. The track showcases a combination of the original Arabic with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the project have clarified that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These proceeds will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a representative explained. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was described as its profound destruction, with a overwhelming percentage of property said to be destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a handful of millions won't make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The song is set to be released at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
