Canada's Blue Jays Secure World Series Matchup With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder previously helped the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first Fall Classic after the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh game seven of the AL Championship Series.

Behind 3-1, Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh, propelling the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 series triumph in the seven-game series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"It's incredible for our team, the city, Canada," Springer stated, a key player of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 title. "What an amazing experience."

The veteran has now slugged 23 playoff homers, making him third on the list trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another person on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that spot except for George Springer with his playoff prowess," said manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the one club never to appear in a World Series.

Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's painful" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their performance throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he added.

The Blue Jays won the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on Friday.
