Heavy Precipitation Worsen Situation for Uprooted Gazans, Agencies Warn
Intense storms over the recent period have worsened the precarious situation of the hundreds of thousands of uprooted residents in the region, as stated by relief organizations.
"Horrendous" Conditions Brings Grave Risks
A official characterized the recent storm as "terrible", with downpours so heavy that up to 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the terrain.
"Last night was exceptionally horrendous for the families. The storms were so strong... And the winds were so strong," said the representative.
There is grave worry that minors living in makeshift shelters in wet attire will succumb to hypothermia and other ailments.
Fatalities and Widespread Destruction
Health authorities have confirmed that one baby has passed away from exposure and no fewer than 11 other people have been killed in structural failures triggered by the harsh conditions.
Further statements put a increased fatality count. Authorities said that several structures had fully given way and many others had sustained partial collapse.
- Almost 55,000 families harmed by rains.
- More than 40 designated refuges submerged.
- Countless residents compelled to move once more.
Assistance Distribution Deemed Not Enough
Organizations have increased shipments of tarpaulins, bedding and clothes after the ceasefire began, but they emphasize there is still not enough aid entering.
"We are operating tirelessly to deliver that aid and to allocate it, but the size of the requirements is so enormous that we continue to see thousands of people and minors who are truly suffering every night," cautioned one representative.
Future Concerns and Truce Plans
The second phase of the ceasefire encompasses proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with future administration, the pullback of troops, and other terms.
Aid organizations have underscored the imperative for "greater and continuous relief to meet urgent and long-term requirements."
The conflict was sparked by an assault in the autumn of 2023. Following actions have led to a significant number of casualties in the region, as per health ministry figures.
