The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode series created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."
The previous season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only arrived this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
Yet, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the shadows, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty launched in 2012 and became a highly successful TV dramas of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of season six drew the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers indicated at the time there were no intentions for further series.
However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
