The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
